WHY I WRITE NOVELS AND FICTION

I figured I'd do a quick video, as it's been a while since I sat before a fire and riffed rather than wrote a blog post. I'm in the middle of transcribing my MS edits from paper to my laptop so figured I'd mix it up a little bit. Let me know why you write, if you're so inclined. So, I figured I'd have a chat about why I write novels and fiction.

I started writing children's picture books to please my inner child. I'm motivated by the children's reactions to my stories. I still write children's stories, but I've moved on to short stories and novels because I find it cathartic. Writing has helped me grow as a person.

Awesome. I truly believe writing is a calling. No one in my family was a writer. Readers, yes, but never writers. I just started doing it probably to please my inner child, but I never wrote children's stories. Probably will in the future just to see if I can. The novel is my most comfortable space, although I have published some short stories and nonfiction.
